The new DPMobil software module developed by Westfalia Landtechnik GmbH makes life easier for the dairy farmer. It allows DairyPlan 5 herd management data to be viewed outside the farm office using a hand-held computer as well as the input of new data into the DairyPlan 5 database. In most cases, it is now no longer necessary to walk back to the office to start up the personal computer. The farmer saves time and does not have to record data on paper first. The DPMobil data can be transferred automatically into the DairyPlan 5 herd management system.
Animal data can literally be pocketed. DPMobil is designed for the rapid input and display of a wide range of herd data using Palm computers operating under Palm OS. These hand-held computers are marketed by PALM™, Handspring, Sony, TRG and IBM. It is now feasible to input comfortably important cow data in the barn with the help of an easy-to-use menu. The hand-held computer stores all essential cow data (e.g. reproduction and milk yield data). In the barn, the cow data can be retrieved by the input of the animal number or the select function. This access is particularily helpful when certain animals show an unusual behavior during a tour of the barn and appropriate action must be taken.
As DairyPlan is a user-friendly system, DPMobil can be set easily for the farm's needs too. These settings include, for example, a limitation of the animal group to be displayed or to be accessed for data entry. DPMobil also supports color output. Even if light conditions are poor, the data displayed can be read easily.
Data are exchanged across the docking systeme of the hand-held computer. Data transfer is managed by the Hotsync software of the Palm computer and the DPMobil module of Westfalia Landtechnik's DairyPlan herd management system.
