Pires Dairy
Background
"We have saved on a full-time milker with our WestfaliaSurge AutoRotor milking parlor. We have been milking in our WestfaliaSurge AutoRotor for the past 3 years with no major problems. We moved into our new dairy center in February 1998 from a flatbarn parlor, building the first WestfaliaSurge AutoRotor in the area." -- Joe Pires
Parlor Equipment
Presently, there are 1400 cows being milked in 6½ hours in our 48-Stall External WestfaliaSurge AutoRotor.
The milking parlor includes: Metatron milk meters with detachers, DairyPlan 5 management software and Classic 300 milking units.
Milking Routine The cows are milked twice a day, with two shifts of 3 milkers, milking at 11:00 AM and 11:00 PM. The milking herd is divided into 8 milking groups, with about 200 cows in each.
Summary The dairy raises its own dairy cow replacements. The cows were moved into freestalls from open lots for cow comfort. Since there are only 640 acres with this farm, feed is purchased from local growers.
WestfaliaSurge was chosen because of the loyalty and good service from the WestfaliaSurge dealer,
T.L. Dairy Service in Tulare, CA (559) 688-3622.
